10 TIPS to effectively find swim lessons for Autism (any Age)

Find out out WHO your swim instructors are. WHY? Because you
know your Ausome one and who they may be comfortable with. You can’t get in the
water with them during swim lessons, so you and your Ausome one has to be
comfortable of whom their in the water with. Remember it’s a safety issue. You
want what’s best for your Ausome one, not what’s convenient to the
organization.
- Male or Female.
- Gender matters for our Sydney, females are whom she’s comfortable with. How do we know this, because we tried putting her in the pool with a male teenage lifeguard AFTER her female older instructor was no longer available due to school starting.
- Age range, parents age, teenagers. – Person will need to establish authority immediately
- Experience teaching swimming – how long have they been teaching swimming
- Experience working in education, counseling, etc.
- A lot of teachers and paraprofessionals teach swimming lessons. Its AUSOME if you can find someone who has this type of experience
- Are they familiar with Autism, have they worked with different Autistic students
- In what setting? For what period of time?
- You might want to think harder if they say
- § my coworkers niece cousin has Asburgers (I spelled it how its incorrectly spoken)
- Do they feel comfortable working with Autistic swim students
- Some people are not, respect their choice and your child safety and move on
- What is the instructors focus: lap swimming, personal water safety, swim strokes, etc.
