If you're an Autism parent. EVERYTIME you see an article or news story about an caustic child drowning. Your heart breaks for those parents & aches for your own Ausome child.  Not to minimize this fear for all parents, but if your child has Autism the resolution isn't as clear as: Just get swimming lessons. Most people just find a place that offers swim lessons, Autism parents and caregivers aren’t so lucky!

After years of experience taking swim lessons, NOW we have a good fit! If I can help EVERY parent and caregiver avoid some of the nightmares we experienced at the Warlick YMCA in Gastonia, NC, I will. It’s a beautiful facility but an ugly place for those with special needs and seeking help!

There are countless reported cases of Autism children drowning, after getting lost from fleeing. Our sensory seekers like water and swimming is essential to their health. Not only is it therapeutic, it’s lifesaving. YOU can be a lifesaver.

These steps will save you time and transform your mindset to meltdown prevention instead of meltdown reaction. Even if things get off course, you have the tools to get them going in the right direction. It may be challenging, but it will be worth it.

10 TIPS to effectively find swim lessons for Autism (any Age) HIP MOVE 6 Figure out the TYPE of lessons you want. Group, Private, Semi-Private. Find out what these terms mean in each organization. Be clear, even if you have to produce visuals. This ensures you are prepared to prepare your autism loved one so they know how many people to expect the day of the lesson.   Group: Group lessons can be from 6-10 students at the same time. Duration of lessons are normally 30 minutes and last for 6 – 8 consecutive weeks. If your ausome one can take group lessons, great! Keep in mind that they WILL be in a group setting and treated like a group. No matter how much you have explained the situation to them, they still might leave your child sitting on the edge of the pool unattended! 10 TIPS to effectively find swim lessons for Autism (any Age) HIP MOVE 9 Meet the autism swim instructor BEFORE the lesson If you are strategic enough to find someone you feel comfortable with, meet the instructor before committing to an actual lesson. This meeting can be in or out of water but it should happen BEFORE an actual paid lesson is scheduled. EVERYONE needs to be comfortable getting in the water. This allows you to see how the instructor communicates with your autism loved one and how they respond. If anyone is uncomfortable, better now than a mid pool meltdown.
